Today I was warmly invited to the Mayor of Hillingdon's Celebration of Diversity event at St Margaret's church in Uxbridge.
As part of the event, I caught-up with faith leaders who I know well, to celebrate them sign a Faith Charter.
The Faith Charter covers the five key pledges of Hillingdon's Interfaith Community, which is a group that aim to foster religious harmony through greater understanding. They organise various educational events, including lectures, seminars, and group talk sessions, to bring people of different religions and cultures closer within the community.
Their commitment is reflected in their five key pledges, which are as follows:
- Promoting Mutual Respect: The community encourages mutual respect among individuals regardless of their religious or cultural backgrounds.
- Building Bridges: They actively work to build bridges between different faith communities, fostering connections and understanding.
- Educational Initiatives: Through lectures, seminars, and other educational events, they promote awareness and knowledge about various religious traditions.
- Outreach to Schools: The community engages with schools to enhance understanding and respect among students from diverse backgrounds.
- Religious Harmony: Their ultimate goal is to create an environment where people of all faiths coexist harmoniously.
The signed Faith Charter, which covers these pledges, will be displayed in the Mayor's Parlour in due course.
It was a wonderful event, with a fantastic orchestra, and brilliant readings from different faith communities.
I'm proud of Hillingdon's diversity, and it brings me so much joy to be the MP of Uxbridge and South Ruislip, the home of many cultures and faiths.
