I'm celebrating World Book Day.
Why?
Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child's future success,
Reading for pleasure is at its lowest level since 2005.
Up to 1,000,000 children in the UK (1 in 15) don't have a book of their own.
3 in 5 children told the National Literacy Trust during lockdown that reading them makes them feel better.
What does it achieve?
50 million National £1 Book Tokens are given to children.
1 in 7 pupils (16.1%) said that the book they 'bought' with their World Book Day book token had been the first book of their own.
Ultimately, World Book Day is the leading source of book discovery for 5-10 year olds, and that's why I support it!
