We have a few Lidl's in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, so I went to their Parliamentary reception recently and found out interesting stats...
At Lidl GB, they are proud to have experienced continuous growth since opening their first store in Britain in 1994. Today they have over 31,000 colleagues, more than 960 stores and 14 distribution centres in England, Scotland, and Wales. Our market share continues to grow and now stands at almost 8%, making us the 6th largest supermarket in Britain.
Last year, Lidl GB was the first discount supermarket to sign the WWF’s Retailers’ Commitment for Nature pledging to halve the environmental impact of UK shopping baskets by 2030. As part of the commitment, they are setting a science based Scope 3 target, in line with the Science based targets initiative aiming to limit global warming to 1.5˚C.
I aim to work with the industry to ensure that the new requirements are proportionate, value for money and do not lead to unintended consequences such as food inflation and supply disruptions.
