Today I was in Yiewsley visiting the UK Warehousing Association (UKWA) ProLogis Park in West London DC5 & DC6 to celebrate their 80th Anniversary of UKWA.
The 2024 Year of Warehousing is a national initiative that aims to raise awareness of the vital role that warehousing plays in the UK economy.
As part of the 2024 Year of Warehousing our Chief Executive, Clare Bottle, will be visiting 80 of our members’ warehouses around the UK, and ProLogis here in Yiewsley have been chosen to host one of these visits - which I was delighted to be a part of.
I was greeted by the wonderful team for a tour of the facility and an opportunity to meet with employees.
Economy
Warehousing is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK. Combined with the wider logistics industry, it contributes £163 billion Gross Value Added (GVA) to the UK economy, and it is estimated that one in ten workers in the private sector are now employed in warehousing and logistics occupations.
DC5 & DC6 are warehousing spaces in Yiewsley, which create opportunities for employees and apprenticeships.
So much so, the logistics and supply chain sector in the UK employs over 2 million people, generating £139 billion of value in 2019.
The female employees grew from 34%-39% between 2018-2022.
Green Spaces
DC5 & DC6 are two of the most sustainable industrial and logistics units in the UK!
They work with Cool Earth, to ensure that acres of green space and trees are protected.
It's also solar powered - both DC5 & DC6 annually save 106k!
All of this good news yet only 7% of young adults would consider a job in logistics - let's increase this number, together.
