We can save women's lives from breast cancer and save the NHS money. We can improve breast screening uptake. We just need more ambition, improved accountability, and effective joined - up work. There is no time to waste on this - and that's what I learnt at the BREAST CANCER NOW Parliamentary drop-in.
Screening finds most breast cancers early, at stage 1, when survival is almost 100%. An estimated 1,300 live from breast cancer could be saved every year in the UK through screening. Compared to other routes to diagnosis, by the time women have symptoms, they will increasingly be diagnosed at stage 2 (90% survival), stage 3 (72% survival), or stage 4 (27% survival).
I'm backing BREAST CANCER NOW on their ambition to to improve breast cancer screening.
