Following the result in Uxbridge & South Ruislip early Friday morning I am devastated as you would imagine to no longer be our local MP. Thank you to all of those who supported me in our local campaign; it is always pleasing to have people backing me because of who I am, and how I’ve been able to support them.
As we had feared, the high number of people voting for Reform out of frustration with national issues impacted us and generated a Labour victory locally.
Whilst I was only your MP for less than a year it was the most fulfilling role I’ve ever held and reinforced my positive view of our local community. It gave me further insight to our wonderful schools, businesses and voluntary partners who along with our residents make this the place I’ve always been proud to call home.
I’ll continue to contribute to our local success in Hillingdon as one of South Ruislip’s Councillors. I will leave the role of local MP proud of what I was able to achieve, especially for the many families with children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Finally I want to reiterate my congratulations to Danny Beales on his election, as whilst we may approach things from a different perspective our underlying want of success for Uxbridge & South Ruislip will always be shared.
All my best,
Steve
