I attended the Children at the Table Parliamentary drop-in, which involved the following charities: Action for children, Believe in children, National children's bureau, NSPCC and the Children's society.
The content of the discussion surrounded their advised commitments for MPs and the government in general. I want to work more closely with children's charities in co-ordinated work so that we can deliver ensuring children today and tomorrow are safer, happier and healthier, with more access to opportunities.
There was emphasis on the need to provide more funding and care to children of Black, Asian, and Ethnic Minority (BAME). I am pleased the constituency of Uxbridge and South Ruislip is so multicultural, so when I visit schools I am engaging with all children. One of my priorities is focusing on SEND children's voices (of all ethnic background) which need amplifying.
I visit so many schools regularly and answer their questions, which mostly regard my career and questions about Parliament and democracy. However, after visiting this drop-in, I want my focus to be largely on asking them questions, and hearing about what I can do more for them, as their local MP.
Children and young people's voices must be heard, as despite only being 20% of the population, they are 100% our future.
