The final week of January comes to a close, and what a busy week it has been. Some of the highlights are as follows:
The week started with a constituency surgery. Topics that my residents brought up with me to discuss involved housing, immigration and the Windmill Project.
In the chamber, I sponsored Duncan Baker MP's autism bill. This aims to raise more awareness and education for teachers to understand the needs and requirements to support autistic pupils.
Hospitality in Uxbridge and South Ruislip contributes significantly to the wider economy. It was great to attend the UK Hospitality Parliamentary drop-in and catch up with CEO Kate to discuss what more needs to be done to support this sector.
It was an honour to invite residents to Number 10 Downing St's Community Sport Champion Event, Anita and Robert, for their hard work in encouraging SEND children in sport, specifically in Wealdstone FC.
I'm proud to announce progress has been made on the Draft Animal Welfare Bill. I attended the Delegated Legislation Committee, where we passed new regulations to ban anyone without a specialist licence from keeping primates as pets.
I was joined by Secretary of State for Education, Gillian Keegan on our visit to Uxbridge College to see the impressive technical and engineering work from apprenticeships.
On the topic of schools, I really enjoyed visiting Ruislip High School and asking Year 12 Government & Politics students what they wanted to know about my Parliamentary and Constituency working life.
As MP, so far I have asked roughly a question each month in the Chamber. This week I asked a question to Department of Environment, and Rural Affairs regarding listening to local manufacturers. I gave a shout-out to Coca Cola HQ and General Mills, both based in the constituency. One of my favourite things to do is to speak nationality about the hard-working small and big businesses of Uxbridge and South Ruislip. Click here to watch my question.
No week goes a miss without campaigning. It's so important for me to get out on the doorstep to not only spread the Conservative message, but to also hear from my residents and receive feedback on what they want to see from me as local MP, and from the Government as a whole. It was fantastic to be joined by the Tamil community in Uxbridge and West Drayton over the weekend.
My weekend also involved attending Community ConnEX at Christchurch Uxbridge, which is always a lovely meet-up and opportunity to meet and speak to residents who have any questions or concerns.
I was also proud to have planted 1 out of 5,000 trees at Hillingdon Court Park Tree Planting Day alongside volunteers for Trees for Cities and Hillingdon Council. Together we are creating a long-lasting green space for all the community.
Lastly, I had an interview by Kate from Times Radio, click here to watch.
I look forward for the first week of February!
