Today I attended the Scottish & Southern (SSEN) distribution Parliament drop-in.
SSEN Distribution is the local distribution network operator for Uxbridge and South Ruislip. They are responsible for providing power to homes and businesses in the community and to 3.9 million customers across central southern England and the north of Scotland.
They put the needs of local communities at the heart of energy systems and work closely with them, which is critical to delivering you your secure energy supply and delivering on our Conservative govt. net zero targets.
The event gave me the opportunity to meet with their Connections Team, where we discussed how we’re working closely with both industry and Government to ensure we have the grid that will support our net zero ambitions.
It also gave me the chance to see their Local Energy Net Zero Accelerator tool which they're using with Local Authorities demonstrating live capacity on the network and predicted constraints, helping customers make better decisions about where to put new energy assets like EV chargers, or where to roll out low-carbon programmes.
It was great to also see their showcase of their Smart, Fair and Now flexibility services, setting out how they are empowering customers with data and tools to control their own energy consumption and reduce bills.
I got direct insights and access to their industry experts explaining how they're delivering the local electricity grid infrastructure needed to hit net zero whilst putting the needs of local communities at the heart of the transition.
